Lake Marion | A Kayak Adventure Through History

General Francis Marion AKA "The Swamp Fox"

The "Swamp Fox" Trail

Hike along a low country trail winding its way through some of the low country and listen to the historical narrative of General Francis Marion, aka, “The Swamp Fox”. This short hike will include a visit to General Francis Marion’s tomb.

Underwater Ghost Town

Explore and paddle over the swallowed town of Ferguson. After the completion of the Lake Marion dam, this once bustling town backed by lumber production, is now just a relic of the past sitting at the shallow bottom of Lake Marion.

Cypress Village

When the dam at Lake Marion was completed, it resulted in some of the most unique cypress forest characteristics in South Carolina. Paddle through aging Cypress and navigate around shallow underwater stumps left behind by the Santee Cypress Company after its relatively abrupt closure.
